First Comic video slideshow

 Hi All,

I just uploaded my first video slideshow of a comic style battle report. I'm actually pretty happy with how it turned out. I'm going to have to dig out a good mic for ADR because what I included in this one is pretty rough.

I had wanted to have Scourge of Iron by Cannibal Corpse be the sound track, but I didn't want the video taken down. After listening to it a million times with the royalty free music I used it has grown on me.

Enjoy.

I'm new to this, so still working things out.

New Year, new comic - MESBG: Battle Companies

 Hi All,

I finally put together a comic of the game I played against Michaelmarines at Fantastic Legion's house before the holidays. It was a redux of the scenario I played against Brendan's Mirkwood Elves all the way back at the beginning of 2021.

Grab yourself a beverage and enjoy.

I may try my hand at turning these pictures into a video slideshow. We shall see, I have a lot of other hobby stuff that is more pressing.

Hope you have a great kick off to your 2022 hobby. We have another MESBG game scheduled for next weekend. Good vs. Evil, everybody brings 250 points.

Later.

Prepare to be underwhelmed - Formigny project

 Hi All,

I've been dragging me feet on many things, but I do have progress of a sort.

The gaps are all  green stuffed and I just have to put extra swords and visors on the knights.

I've also primed the first twelve archers.

I know, grey primer on grey plastic. Woo hoo! Of course I noticed one right arm I forgot to putty.

I also realized after priming these that none of these guys got swords. Perry shows a sword in the instructions, but I don't think there are enough swords for everybody. I feel like these guys would not be universally armed with swords so I'll scatter a few throughout the units as I build more. I have another 16 archer torsos cleaned.

Fantastic Legions will probably not be impressed with my progress, but it is what it is. (P.S. I'm going to try putting hyperlinks in bold since this template only shows them when they are moused over.

Anyway. Have a great Thanksgiving if you celebrate and happy hobbying.

Return of Mojo - Formigny project

 Hi All,

Well, suffice it to say I had a rough Summer and my mojo for life in general was just not there for many months.

I had been planning to do a late Hundred Years War project with Fantastic Legions and playtest some rules, but after buying a bunch a figures all this real life stuff happened and I just pretty much went into "I can accomplish one thing per day" mode. Unfortunately that one thing wasn't hobby for quite awhile.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago. Fantastic Legions sent me a link to putting on a game at Desert Wars in March 2022. He suggested Formigny in which two French Armies linked up to defeat an English expeditionary force and hastened the fall of English Normandy.

It has a little bit of everything. English longbows ravaging the French. French canons wreaking havoc and a final French cavalry charge. As well as the linking of two forces to combat the defending English.

So if you want to read about it there is a decent article here.

There are also a couple of interesting youtube videos about the battle. This one by Kings and Generals (23minutes) and this other one by Schwerpunkt (2.5 hours).

So it looks like I'll be making up about 8 units, 4-5 of them bowmen.

The English leaders were:

Matthew Gough

There is no opensource heraldry for him but a common theme is three boars or boars heads on blue or white field.

I'm thinking of adding the coats of arms of Bayeux, Caen and Vire as well, since the garrisons were pulled from those towns to battle Jean de Bourbon the Comte de Clermont at the time.

Anyway, lots of work to do. I've been dragging my feet while Fantastic legions has been putting out some lovely units.

Hope your hobby is going well.

Paint em if you got em.

Defend the Gate - MESBG:BC

 Hi All,

Last in person game before things really got crazy COVID wise in Arizona.

Again at Fantastic Legions house with his amazing terrain.

I pushed him to 50%, but lost the game because I couldn't get close enough to the gate when I rolled to see if the scenario was over.

Still fun. Enjoy.

I feel like my Uruks outperformed. My dice, for once, were pretty hot. However it was not enough. Lots more work to do on the force.

Not sure what is coming next. I have a few new figures in that are calling to me, so that may get me back to the painting table.

My son got exposed to someone with COVID at school, so we're trying to navigate testing and all that right now. The system is pretty confusing and my attempt to be proactive may be for nothing as we may not get his test results before he's done a full quarantine anyway. Oh well. I guess we're lucky to have gotten this far without having to test.

Hope you all are healthy, safe and getting in hobby where you can.

Seize Ground - MESBG:BC

 Hi All,

This game was hosted by Brendan. He had a great balcony spot for us to play and do our best to stay socially distant. We only had a couple of instances of rosters blowing off the table.

Neither of us were as good as Fantastic Legions or CJ at remembering the rules, but we rolled dice, drank beer and had fun. I'd call that a success.

On to the report.

I'm sensing a theme with the forces of good. Each individual guy is pretty powerful. The Mirkwood Elves weren't quite as tough as the Rangers, but I had a hard time killing them, only injuring one. Their bows could shoot at me from the objectives they were holding on their side of the table.

One more game to do a report for and then I've got to figure out what to do with myself.

Happy hobbying.

Hold the Line / A Daring Rescue - Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game : Battle Companies

 Hi All,

Our next game took place in November. This started a rash of Middle Earth Gaming. My opponent was again CJ. He has been playing since the game came out and used to play Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game in tournaments. (PS, I'm only going to refer to it as MESBG et al from here on out.)

We ended up playing two games, but as I mention in the comic I can't remember the rationale for the second game. I thought that there was something in the injury section that called for it, but I can't find it at the moment.

Once again Fantastic Legions hosted. The terrain is his, the Rangers are CJ's and the Uruks were painted by yours truly.

Please enjoy this two part comic.

The main lesson I learned is, don't have a guy without a shield be your hero even if he looks cool. My strategy of running away worked for the first scenario, but I got my ass handed to me in close combat in the second. Those rangers are tough.

You may have noticed the background of the page. I made it special for this, but of course I covered it up with the panels. If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter you saw it better, but I can share it here too is desired.

Anyway we closed out 2020 and rang in the new year with a couple more games of MESBG:BC.

So you'll be seeing that in the next couple of reports.

Game if you can.

It's drafty in the trenches - Warhammer Historical: Great War

 Hi All,

Well, new year, new computer, same old hobby. I hadn't intended to sit on this report from last Summer, or ghost the blog so bad, but here we are.

Fantastic Legions and I got together and played this as a pick up game after some other plans to play Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game fell through. I forgot that he blogged about it here. His pictures are way better than mine.

As always, it was a good time. My pictures were a bit junk, so they didn't make the greatest comic. Oh well. Enjoy.

As you can see I tried my hand at adding some clouds to cover the usual off table stuff/ gamer crotch. Once I figured out my workflow it went quickly enough. If you have an opinion on it I'd love to hear it.

Paint 'em if you got 'em.

Ambiguously Magical Duo - Another Scale Creep Project

 Hi All,

Well, we had another group painting project. We're sort of calling them challenges, but they are super laid back and there are no prizes. Also the deadlines have been fairly flexible. We're just friends trying to give each other mojo to paint along a theme.

Anyway this one was to paint a wizard and his apprentice, nominally for Frostgrave and potentially to expand upon the Mordheim figures we did earlier. Here are mine.

I did Magnus the Bright from Advanced Heroquest and Telor from Heroquest as my Sorcerer and Apprentice pair.

As always I encourage you to go to Scale Creep and see the other submissions here.

I painted Magnus with Reaper paints, except for the stonework which was Citadel Contrast.

Same for Telor. Initially I had tried to 3D print him from some files I found online, but I don't have my settings right for printing figures on my filament printer. Maybe some day, but not right now.

Anyway not much to add to this. I figured I'd spare you pictures of failed prints etc. I'm trying to keep you all informed, but not bogged down in the minutia.

I hope to have some more posts up soon. I'm working on a battle report and I replaced the hot end on my printer so I have some pictures of how I did that.

Thanks for stopping by. Keep hobbying.

What's on the Workbench.

 Hi All,

I'm sorry for the lack of posting. Things have been really busy both in hobby and real life, but blogging and keeping up with blogs has really fallen by the wayside.

My latest gamer ADD thing are these Corvus Games Terrain buildings.

These are the thingiverse freebies of the upcoming Isolation Protocol Kickstarter. They use the Waylayer system and I think they look great.

This is the Sector Corvus Prime Openlock freebie from thingiverse. It got me to buy the whole Sector Corvus Prime Bundle. So you'll be seeing that soon I hope.

And this is the Sector Corvus Prime Warlayer style building. Ignore the tile on the bottom, I had a clog that caused a print failure.

So I'm jumping around printing this and some fantasy streets for a Mordheim board. I also need to get on printing the Mortis Vallis Kickstarter, but I'm fixated on printing some sci fi stuff and getting it on the table.

Got some stuff in the pipeline, so stay tuned.
