Hi All,
Here is a comic battle report of the Epic battle that Asslessman from Leadplague ran for us at BOYL 2019.
The Ork side consisted of myself and WhiskeyPriest, led by The Otto Von Bismark.
The Imperial side consisted of Rochie, Curis and Pat.
The Traitors were Mr. Saturday, Thansants and Bulldog Lopez.
Strap in for the ride of your life.
Sorry for the abrupt ending, pictures during a game can be hit and miss. I missed the obscene number of Space Marines, Rhinos and Land Raiders my Gargant destroyed and Bulldog Lopez blowing the weapons off my right side right at the end. I ended up running away with the game with something stupid like 39 victory points. I owe it all to The Otto Von Bismark who had a vast knowledge of the rules and capabilities of the Gargants.
I think we all have the bug to paint up more Epic forces now.
Welcome to Laurent AP, thanks for following the blog.
Happy hobbying to everyone, thanks for looking.

Countdown to BOYL: 44 days
Hi All,
Is it time to be terrified yet?
I'm wrapping up the OWAC2 but also madly trying to prepare a bunch of figures for BOYL in August. My timeline is a few days shorter than until the actual event because I have so much travel time to get there. Something like an 11 hour flight, followed by a 2.5 hour drive. Ugh.
Any way, here's some stuff. (Sorry for the bad pictures.)
9 Humans. I realize now that they had the extra arms attribute. Whoops. I'll pretend they have baby T-Rex arms under their jackets. I also really need to dust.
The grave guard, or whatever, that I'm using as Grim Reapers for OWAC2.
The Renegade, Orks (Extra Joints), Beastmen (Irrational Fear [color]), Assassin (I like the way he came painted, just trying to fix him and texture his base.) Two candidates for the Terminator Game/ Strontium Dogs if I can weasel my way in. And some skellies mixed in. Also the Zombie plague cart that needs to be built. Not shown are the Ash Waste Racer, Great Gargant and Space Marine Terminators that have yet to be built. Right now I'm also thinking I will assemble my adventurers for the Temple of Rigg from already painted Fantasy stuff.
So I think I should be worried.

Paint Table Saturday 251 - Actual finished figures!
Hi All,
It seems like ages since I've had finished figures to post on a Saturday. I actually finished these guys last night.
The first two Gorillas from the space apes set from Eureka. For all of these photos I used my cell phone on "pro" camera settings and then manually fine tuned them a little in Snapseed, no presets. I meant to look at ape names from the Planet of the Apes franchise of movies (the 70's ones) but haven't had time.
The Empirical Absolution Squad + 1. I kept with the color scheme laid out on my Psycho Sam (Dahn Alt Rump) and I think I achieved a pretty good match. The Psi Judge, I believe a Mongoose figure, was something I won in a blog contest years ago. I decided not to resculpt her dodgy right hand. I'm not totally sure if I like what my matte varnish has done to all the gold metallics.
(Apparently if I type Psy Judge I get articles about the guy who sang Gangnam Style. It appears the figure is a Mongoose Psi Judge Anderson, someone wrote an article here.)
Commandant Xerof Uks leads Team Terra: Galactic Police in rooting out Xeno scum.
Lastly I put down some base colors on the chimpanzees from the space apes. I suppose one could make the case that the gent on the left is also a gorilla, but he seems smaller than the other two. I did not paint their hair yet. I was going to go with darker browns.
Any way, thanks for looking and commenting.
Happy painting.

Paint Table Saturday 250 - Team Terra and Space Apes
Hi All,
I know, it's Sunday. This is where I left the figures yesterday.
Team Terra is mostly the Empirical Absolution squad from Foundry with a Mongoose Psy Judge. They will join the Psycho Sam figure from Oldhammer USA 2015.
Got most of the faces and space suits on the gorillas. I mixed some dark blue with some darker browns to get the flesh tones. Thanks for the tip Asslessman. I'm trying to do the color scheme as an homage to the uniforms from Conquest of the Planet of the Apes from 1972. As you may recall the gorillas wore red, chimps green, and orangutans a sort of orange brown, I might go khaki instead. I have these two gorillas, two I'm calling chimps and one shorter one which seems similar to the other gibbons I have.
So there you have it.
I hope to have these guys knocked out this next week.
Happy painting.

Paint Table Saturday 249 - Team Terra, Safari Giant and Space Apes
Hi All,
For some reason there don't seem to be enough hours in the day lately. We've all been getting back into the swing of being at school and it has been pretty hot temperature-wise. We are finally getting some rain though.
Anyway here are the same figures, in more or less the same state that they were in last time I showed them to you.
I also got out my various Eureka apes to finish the ground work on and perhaps base coat later today.
I'll try to be better about posting regularly and getting everyone caught up on the WFRP campaign. I also want to get back to the Oldhammer in the New World Zine. There's talk of another event in the Jerz in November.
Thanks for looking.

Paint Table Saturday 245 - Team Terra, Galactic Police
Hi All,
After seeing Mario's post I realized I had forgotten to share this weeks painting progress with you.
These are mostly Foundry old Rogue Trader sculpts. On the right you can see my Hero Forge Shadow Run inspired Half Orc Street Samurai, a Judge Dredd Psy Judge and Psycho Sam, who I named Dahn Alt Rump. He's there as a color guide. As you can see we have a Red, White and Blue theme going on. Their job is to find Xeno scum and eliminate them. They're not very nice.
In the close up it may be hard to tell, but the photo is taken on my new gamecraft paint tray with the led attachment light providing the lighting. I adjusted levels in Snapseed, but it came out pretty well.
Not too much else to report. I'm finally clearing out my garage, so hopefully I'll be able to have more game reports from home soon. Amongst the finds? 3.5 computer disks, piles of old power supplies and computer cables and an emerging termite nest that was boring up through a crack in the concrete into a box of books.
Still a lot of work to go, but I feel pretty good about getting over the inertia that comes with looking at a big room full of junk and not knowing where to begin.
Any way, thanks for looking and commenting.

Paint Table Saturday 224 - Progress on Bretonnians and Wizards
Hi All,
The weeks seem to be flying by. I'm getting a little bit of hobby time in the evenings while we watch the Winter Olympics. I've never really been very engaged in the Olympics in general but I'll follow on occasion.
Anyway, put paint on a few areas here and there.
Did all the base flesh, base and highlights on the padded leather and a base coat for the Blue. As you can see I went with a Blue outer robe for Holbon Toddlebrew. What may not be as clear is that I over painted the old flesh on all the retainers and wizards with Reaper Tanned Shadow, partly to be challenge compliant and partly because I feel like the old flesh color is a caricature of itself. For Mazda I tried the Fair flesh tone. I want him pale, but I didn't want to do more Vampiric flesh.
The other thing I tried just yesterday was putting down a layer of Orange Brown over the Grey primer and then putting the Marigold Yellow on. I think it works better than multiple coats of Marigold Yellow that just leave me frustrated.
I just realized that I forgot to share the finished Ape pictures on the G+ page, so I'll do that.
Happy Year of the Dog. We went out for Lunar New Year dinner last night with friends, it was great.

Paint Table Saturday 223 - Bretonnian Retainers, Space Apes and Greenstuff
Hi All,
I forgot to share this with you yesterday, track season has taken up a lot of my time and energy. We had to drive an hour for yesterday's meet, but I think my son got another personal best in the 3000m. I'm glad, because I had to drive around town to exchange his new track shoes for ones that actually fit. It seems we misjudged and only bought a half size bigger for this season.
Any way on to the minis.
Still prepping and base coating figures. I gave all of the C02 wizards an ink wash to bring out the detail. I'll probably be painting them up randomly. I will be painting over their flesh, so I am just pretending it's flesh primer for challenge purposes. I've already repainted the metallics over the 5 or so retainers that had metal painted. I also glued together the resin Ape from Bombshell miniatures (I think). I used some runnier super glues and almost glued my fingers together, twice!
As usual I made way too much green stuff for filling gaps on the Ape and making a green stuff base for him. Not pictured is the Greenstuff World Roller I used for that. Also you can't really see the mesh pattern. I then tried to make more hex rivets and use the roller to make cables/worms. I think I didn't evenly coat the roll maker with vaseline, it seemed to stick on one side. So I need to work with these things more.
Anyway I hope to get this Ape finished today or early tomorrow. I've got a simple scheme in mind for him.
Happy painting everyone.

Hobby Update - Bretonnians, C02 Wizards, Chemical Plant and J-Pop Metal
Hi All,
A lot of stuff to tell you all about. I did end up finishing those Knights, but I can't show you until tomorrow. So I will do that with Paint Table Saturday. After we run our 5K in the morning.
On the desk right now are the old Citadel Men at Arms/ Retainers, a couple of old Bretonnian Crossbowmen mixed with Foundry Crossbowmen, and 3 C02 Wizards. Dormur, and in the back the Grim Reaper from Reaper are also there, but just as filler.
Now I've had these Wizards since the 90's, but obviously never got very far with them. I was looking at them the other day and noticed something hanging from the third guys belt. So I thought I'd do some research.
So you can find pictures of them on Stuff of Legends here.
So I have Baygar , Spyre and Holbon Toddlebrew on the desk right now and Mazda packed with my Undead somewhere. What got me curious about researching them was the thing that looks like a calculator hanging from his belt.
Sure enough it's mentioned on his page on the Collecting Citadel Miniatures Wiki, here.
Although I've barely been able to get anything painted for it, I'm also doing the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge. I just missed getting the Knights finished on Monday, so I couldn't submit them there this month. One of the things that's new this year is that you can submit terrain for scoring. Since I have precious little terrain I thought that would be a good thing to do. I bought the Pegasus Chemical Plant last Summer, but didn't get it in time to take it with me for gaming Shadow War: Armageddon.
Lastly I refound the band BabyMetal to listen to while I was powering through the finishing touches on those knights.
Chocolate is the main song that pops up, but I like Karate better. They sort of remind me of Melodic Metal bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Dragon Force. I feel like I'm listening to the music for the end credits of an Anime. If you go through their youtube playlist, the one where they sing Breaking the Law with Rob Halford is fun.
Also mixed in their playlist was the group LadyBaby. It's also fairly demented, Ladybeard is something else.
Thanks for looking.

Paint Table Saturday 208 - Bretonnians being prepped.
Hi All,
Not a lot of painting done this week. I've been prepping figures for the Old World Army challenge which can be seen here.
I was planning on doing an Undead army featuring figures from the Skull & Crown Triumph of Death Kickstarter for the Analogue Hobbies painting challenge. I made a list for the Old World challenge and then found out that three of us were doing Undead and no one was doing Bretonnia. So I switched just so we could have complete coverage and I can do the Undead for Analogue Hobbies. If I don't crash and burn that is.
So, we can see here the 20 Conquest plastic Normans I'll be painting up as Brigands. Behind them are late 80's Bretonnian foot knights, behind them are the 5 original metal Bretonnian bowmen plus the 2 plastic ones from 4th edition. To the right of the Normans are the 4 remaining metal Bretonnian Crossbowmen from my original collection and behind them the 5 retainers I had plus 3 retainers and 2 fighters I bought from Blue some time ago.
And my Foundry order finally arrived. A pack each of marching and firing Crossbowmen and one pack of firing bowmen from their Baron's war range I think. They threw in an ACW figure and I kind of wish they hadn't. I've been planning to do ACW in 1/72 plastic and this figure is so nice. Argh!
It wasn't the original shrink wrap, but the books inside appear to be untouched. I'm happy with the find.
I hope to finish up those IG tomorrow. I know I've said that for weeks. I'll keep saying it until it's true.
I need to get back to prepping and watching some kind of horror movie with my wife and son while my daughter goes out to a friends Halloween party.
Keep your brushes pointy.

We had our final regulation Cross Country meet of the season this morning, and my boy came in first in his age group. Hurray! But I took this opportunity to make a trip to the Mesa, AZ Bookman's as I hadn't been there before. In the sea of 7th Edition (?) Warhammer 40K books there was this.

Paint Table Saturday 194 - Bbblllggddp and Bob
Hi All,
I keep on hoping to post more than once a week, but right now it's all I can manage. It was week 3 of the #BeerMaW challenge. I figured I could do these two for this week.
Bbblllggddp and Bob are old citadel Fishmen that are currently sold by Wargames Foundry here. The idea was to paint them up in basic colors with orange spots, like koi or oscar type fish. I maybe went a little too simple with them, but I wanted them to not be super fussy.
I wanted to show you guys this picture, the first one I took, because it illustrates the problem that I see in a lot of miniature photography. Absolutely everything in this photo is the same as the one above except for one thing. The light spot in the background is behind the figures in this shot. The problem with this photo is that the light background behind the figures has made them appear dark as the camera tries to compensate. So many people use a white background and then don't touch up their photos to fix this darkening. But I digress.
All blacks, greys and "whites" used.
Blue's for the belts, straps and gloves. Red for the eyes. Dark brown wash for all over.
Two varieties of Burnt Orange for the spots.
Brown, reds and tans for the maw and teeth.
Metallics used.
For the next week I'm going to try and finish some started figures.
I may not do these ones yet because...
I'm over a year now on finishing these for Curt and Dave B.
Wish me luck, and thanks for looking.
