Editing STL files - Necromunda

Hi All,

So you may or may not have seen these great Sci Fi buildings that Bulldoglopez and Axiom have been building out of old Necromunda bulkhead sections.

Now I had thought that Bulldoglopez had blogged about it, I was wrong. Axiom, however, has here. In fact, he is such a consummate gentleman he has blogged Bulldog's as well at the end. I'll wait while you read it. When you do you'll realize why I got excited about hab building.

My first issue was that I didn't have any of the old Necromunda tiles. What's a guy locked in his house with a 3d printer to do?

First, search the term "Necromunda Bulkhead" on Thingiverse. I tried several and they had real problems with ovehangs straight out of the box. I had to figure out how to get usable prints. After failing with the split, flat on the build plate, files I figured I could cut the vertical files in Meshmixer.

I still had to print with supports, but  it seemed to print fairly well.

Not too bad, but those supports are a pain to get out.

So back to the drawing board and fix those parallel to the build plate files. That handle had to go. it started on the third layer and just made it a nightmare to print.

It's hard to get perfect in Tinkercad but it prints flat.

Seven and a half-ish hours, not too bad. This particular print made me realize I had some more tweaking to go as the top right door piece had a void around the sides and the top on the back. Why the OP did that baffles me.

But they did print. Just a little bit of lifting on a few corners.

I also realized after this that the fill in the bottom pair was too thin. So I thickened it up a little.

Now I had been super resistant to Tinkercad because I like to have software on my computer so I can work on things offline. After a couple of friends showed me what they were doing with Tinkercad, I got over myself. Now I'm addicted to adding stuff to the bulkheads.

Then I remembered there were some bulkhead frames. I had to cut off the top handle on the right and some connectors between the two halves.

But I wanted to rotate the halves so that they sat on the plate like the other models, but I didn't know how to separate the parts. As you can see here, I figured it out.

A little verbose GoogleFu later.

Here's this guys video. Thanks Chaos Core Tech.

He's using an older version of Tinkercad, but you can still do what he says.

Thanks for looking, and I hope to have some habs to show you soon.

BOYL 2019 Preparation - Terminator Apotheosis

Hi All,

Here's a couple of figures I finished yesterday, hot of of finishing my OWAC2 challenge figures the day before. I'll be posting them here in a future post.

Anyway, here's a sexy man and his dog.

The figures are a Necromunda Bounty Hunter and a Mordheim warhound.  I decided to paint up the dog like a Rottweiler.

The figure looks like the Saxophonist guy from The Lost Boys.

Anyway, I'm hoping that an Autopistol, Plasma Pistol, Combat Knife, and sex appeal will allow him to kill many robots.

Thanks for looking.

Kublacon 2018 - Necromunda: Bright Light, Hive City

Hi All,

In this game we got to use the other half of our gang. All of the short range, non leader types. It ended up being a 4 player game. Tim, Ryder, Trevor and Aidan battled it out on the streets of the upper hive while I randomly moved civilians and robots. The cops I moved a little more purposefully.

Anyway, the gist of the scenario was that a guilder had some data that was worth a kings ransom. Each gang had a hacker to help extract the data and do various hackery things to help reduce alarm levels etc.

Running past civs, shooting and various gang like things would raise the alarm level. Once it got to six bad things would happen.

Here's how it unfolded.

So all the gangs failed. In the post mortem it was discussed that the first half was meant to be more stealthy until the data was retrieved, then all hell would break loose and a mad dash to get out would ensue. Most of the players tried the mad dash to get in.

I also want to take the time to say how great the table was that Mario put together. Lovingly detailed MDF buildings with all kinds of eye candy and nods to cool geeky things. It was a feast for the eye before the figures were even added.

It has really tempted me to buy some more building kits, even though my lizard brain tells me I have to scratch build everything.

Hope you enjoyed the comic. Next up is my game against Lasgunpacker.

Thanks for looking.

Paint Table Saturday 241 - Necromunda terrain

Hi All,

Not much to report on the actual hobby front. I haven't gotten back into a groove since returning from vacation. So the hobby has fallen on the back burner a tad.

I did manage to get all the Bulkheads, Doors and barricades from the new Necromunda terrain boxes cut off the sprue.

I'm having a little bit of indecision about how to paint them. I kind of want to do rust, but then I've really been wanting to do some verdigris. Maybe I can spot do it on the hatches or something.

I also need to print out some suitable Necromunda posters and come up with some graffiti.

I also finally went to check out Funkatronic Rex. I bought the Sector Imperialis Objectives while I was there. Not a ton of tabletop wargaming space, but the owner seemed nice and it might be a way to meet some people and have some room to set up a game to play with my son.

Junior Olympic State Championships is this weekend. More just to keep in shape for USATF Nationals than planning to go on to JO Regionals. Top 4 qualify, but he hates running at altitude and the Regionals will be in Colorado.

Thanks for looking.

Kublacon 2018 - Necromunda: Showdown in the Underhive

Hi All,

This was the big, evening, Necromunda game put on by Clark. As you can see the terrain is fantastic, I really like playing on his table. In all there were eight gangs. Aidan and I actually got to run our own gangs this year. He had the Bone Crushers of House Orlock and I re ran a slightly more legit version of my Genestealer Cult, The Children of the Comet. I still need to work out a better list or play a more legit gang. This list is still a tad wonky.

Anyhow, there was a lot of carnage all along the table,  but I was only really able to focus at our end. Each turn we drew cards for activation. I like that mechanic.

On with the comic.

So there you have it. The boy had to go to bed at 11pm, his mother was firm on that, and I bottled not long after that. So I was done by about 12:30am. The game went on until about 1:30am this time, I heard. Very enjoyable, I feel very lucky that the group has been so inviting to my son and I. It's also nice that they focus on killing each other and mostly leave us alone.

Thanks for looking.

Kublacon 2017 - Big Necromunda game.

Hi All,

Going all the way back to May and the huge game of Necromunda I played in. The game ran until 2AM. I played my Genestealer Cult and had a lot of fun. I held this one back because I was going to publish it in the Oldhammer in the New World Zine. Then I got distracted and never finished putting the zine together. I'm working on having it come out in December.

Here's the comic.

As you can see the terrain and figures were off the hook. I think we started with 8 players and whittled down to about four. It was hardcore. I had control of the Patriarch and Facehugger and I muffed their usage. The scenario had a lot of  shifting objectives and multiple hidden objectives based on which group you were. Still a blast though. Thanks to the guys for welcoming me and my son into the game. I intend to return in 2018.

Thanks for looking.

Oldhammer - Character Injury Charts

Hi All,

Been noodling around with a full write up of the Emporium of Rogue Dreams full Abdul Goldberg contest. My work on the North American submissions got me fired up to do a separate piece on the whole thing.

But on to the main thrust of today's post.

Injury Charts

So, if I recall correctly, Bulldog was talking about Rogue Trader campaigns and how to deal with casualty recovery. He said something about using a chart from Mordheim and I made a comment that I thought there was some such thing in 3rd Edition Warhammer, but I didn't know where since I haven't actually read all of my books.

So I did a little research.

In the Advanced Gamer section of Rogue Trader we find a casualty recovery system on p239.  Using percentile dice (d100) you roll for each fallen figure after the scenario. They have a 50% chance of being fine, 25% chance of being injured (roll on the injury chart) and a 25% chance of being outright dead. Sounds pretty useful.

For 3rd Edition I discovered the Casualty Recovery Chart on p73 of Realm of Chaos: The Lost and the Damned. This one is also d100 but has the injuries folded in the table, no secondary rolls. The chance of outright death has also been reduced to 10%.

By the time we get to Mordheim we have changed to the d66. I guess it's handy since we tend to have a lot of d6 for playing GW games, but it seems a little weird. It also reminds me of my d666 or d108 post here. Anyway, here again we have the results all in one table, no re-rolling. Each individual value has a 2.8% probability of coming up (thanks Troll Dice) so about a 14% chance of death and then some interesting ideas like being sold into slavery or to be sold as a pit fighter. I don't have a physical copy of these rules but I found it on p80 of something called the Living Rulebook and p174 of something called the Updated rulebook.

Lastly, Necromunda is essentially the same as Mordheim. There is an almost 17% chance of death and no mention of pit fighting but more talk of scars. It is on p84 of that rule book.

I also have the much newer system, Inquisitor, lying around but Mordheim and Necromunda are Newhammer enough to me that I don't feel the need to look any further. (I just peaked, the system is so different that it doesn't really apply to the older rules at all. Probably more like WFRP.)

So any experience using these various systems? Have a favorite?
