Giving the blog a face lift

Hi All,

You may have noticed that the blog looks different today. I feel that it's been long overdue for a change up/ update.

In the coming days I'll be noodling around with things and trying to update the various pages with, hopefully, more useful information.

As I do these things I'll try to share them with you as a source of ideas for you, should you want to try them.

The changes today were from a simple template to an Awesome Inc one. I changed the widget display to a single column, and adjusted the width of the blog to 1000px to fit my 900px standard pictures.

I'll be working on the banner and a photo gallery next.

In other news, I joined the Oldhammer Forum, and noticed that A Tale of Several Gamers Blog is gone. I'm sad about the second thing, as I think that a collaborative project blog to inspire painting projects was a great idea. I feel like I'm responsible in part for its demise because I forgot to update it with my Oldhammer USA prep stuff.

I'm hoping to get more stuff painted for Oldhammer in the final part of the year and I'm thinking a lot about going to more cons or ways to play more Oldhammer.

I think it's time to revisit my mighty empires campaign and consider how to do some remote games in it.

    1. Thanks Airborne. I'm still trying to figure out who the Western States Oldhammerers are. It looks like Drew may be another. Right now it seems a little frustrating as there are not a lot of online resources for upcoming cons.

  2. Looks good Sean, but I liked your old look too, so no change in that regard! :)

    1. Thanks Prufrock. I didn't dislike my old look, I think the blog just needs to freshen up its look every few years.

    1. Hi Asslessman, yeah it's a simple way to break out of a rut. I have a lot of things to update on the page and the template was a quick way to get the ball rolling.

    1. Thanks Michael, still not as distinctive as yours.

  5. New look? Maybe I'm something of a Philistine, but I hadn't even noticed :-( . Content matters, though: the Oldhammer stuff is certainly interesting!

    1. Hi Hugh, no worries. I still be posting the same questionable content. ;)

  6. Nice look and glad you haven't gone 'dynamic'! I found that white on dark text started to annoy me, let alone someone surfing the blog for a while, but just changed the text to a pale grey and think it doesn't strain the eyes so much?

    1. Hi Hugh W, I dabbled with dynamic a couple of years ago and it was a complete failure. When I read Kindle books on my tablet I prefer white text on a black background. I find grey can get problematic, but I might try to tone it down. I used to hate white text on black but I've gotten used to it.

    1. Thanks Ray, she'll be gone soon. I'm working on a new banner too. Still not sure why you hate Meryl Streep so much? ;)

    1. Thanks Millsy. That tagline has been on the blog for several years. Perhaps it's just more legible now that the banner has been cut down by the new header size. I'm keeping that, but redoing the pictures on the banner.
