Olleytoberfest - Reaper Dwarven Brewmeister 02559

Hi All,

A quick one before I make dinner and get ready for trick or treaters.

A little bug eyed, but the first time in ages I've actually painted a black eye dot with a brush. The apes, with their white eye dots so successful, gave me the courage to try this time.

Perhaps I dirtied him up a tad too much with the grunge wash. All the paints were reaper except for craft paints on the base.

It was fun to work on a single figure and get him finished. I probably could have done him in fewer, longer sessions, but it was nice to just work on him a bit at a time as time allowed over the month.

You can still purchase him, and his barrel toting compadres here.

If you painted any Olley's or found any painted ones in your collection that you want to share, let me know.

I'm trying to push out the Oldhammer in the New World Zine #3 in the next day or two, in time for Oldhammer in the Jerz 2. I'm just polishing the last bit of the work I did and then abandoned at some point last year.

Thanks for looking and commenting.

  1. Nice work! I particularly like the cloak, the red has a very realistic color.

I think the only Olley stuff I have is some of the genestealer hybrids, but they need to be repainted before I ever show them off... although I think I have painted some of his dwarves for various DnD games over the years.

    1. Thanks Lasgunpacker. I never realized how prolific a sculptor he has been until sometime last year. I think sculptor themes are nice way to learn about sculpts and lines we're not always aware of. You should definitely share your Olley's when you're comfortable with them.

    1. Hi Bill, I like it. You should keep going on those undead, unless you've hit your saturation point. I have a bunch of stuff I want to paint right now, but I need to pack for a trip and generally get my hobby stuff in order. We'll see how things pan out.

    1. Thanks Dai, I was surprised by how well the white dot on black eye worked for the apes so I thought I'd give the reverse a go again. It's acceptable to me, even if he looks a little crazy eyed.

  4. He's quite nice cheers! Looks to me like you got the eye just right, and a nice scheme and clean, elegant execution.

I have a few Olley dwarves primed with paint on them, along with some other Reaper dwarves. Do have a group of Olley figures up, though, some harpies: https://belchedfromthedepths.blogspot.com/2018/05/d-harpies.html.

And Olley is on my mind this week because of: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/433105762/the-mighty-exo-armoured-dwarves-28mm-scale-miniatu?ref=blr0p0&token=6a94df80

    1. Hi Ryder, thanks a lot. I do remember your Harpy post, those were some fun figures. I saw your link to the KS, I'm on the fence because I have a ton of unpainted KS lying around. I also only have a few squads of squats. Perry sculpts and some newer ones from Diehard and Uscarl.

  6. Nice work! Great brown on the cloak, nicely layers up that.

I've always fancied collecting all the drinking minaitures as a big umbrella project as there are so many great, characterful pieces.

    1. Thank you Curis. I wanted the inside of the cloak to be interesting but not over power the tunic. I went with the Reaper Khaki triad. I think I should have toned down the was a little and pumped up the exposure of the picture a little. I think a drinking miniatures project would be a fun one.
