Ambulls and Apes

Hi All,

Been super busy the last 10 days or so. Saw the new Halloween movie with the kids, we loved it. Ate a pretzel the size of my head for Oktoberfest and went to a Badminton lesson with my daughter.

In the mean time I did finish the Umber Hulks/Ambulls. The varnish was acting weird, and I kept finding tiny spots that were missed. Finally I just gave in and called them done.

So here they are. After three times painting varnish on I'm leaving the shiny spots.

For fun I put them around Ape force, which was finished earlier. I submitted all of them to the OWAC Sprint challenge. No real reason, just because I could.

I then thought it might be nice to do an ape family portrait.

Thanks for looking and commenting.

    1. Thanks airborne. There might be some incentives to capture some live specimens.

  2. You really achieved something great here Sean, it takes quite some guts to paint such a group without losing sanity.

    1. Thanks Asslessman, the multiple monopose can be quite frustrating. Perhaps the loss of sanity began when I came up with the idea for the scenario in the first place.

  3. I can only imagine the fear that the players will be experiencing when they face off against all those bloody things. Great work mate. I can't wait to see the amount of carnage they cause on the pretend battlefield :)

    1. Hi Papafakis, so far I've only had two Ambulls and they've usually wrecked the players. I'm curious to see if some tweaks will help.

    2. Hah, and reading the post I was thinking, "two would be bad enough..."

    3. Yes Ryder, two usually kill everybody. So we shall see. There are going to be a few rules tweaks. I think Knock-Out grenades and the like will be used heavily. In the past we've used regular combat and counted it as non lethal damage to the Ambulls. Also there will be points awarded based on how intact the Ambull carcass is. Flamer kills probably won't get a high price on the market.

  4. Holly crap, I learned so much from those links the previous commenter posted! 😂 Just kidding, I don't want to get a virus by clicking on one of them.

Now you just need to organize your Ambull attacks scenario!

    1. Hi Andrew, Brain Plow sounds like a weird porn title. I'll relegate it to SPAM. The seeds of the scenario are there, I just need to finalize a few things and make some playing aids.

    1. Thanks Anthony, yeah I thought that would be fun. Also a way to get my output for the OWAC Sprint in order.

  6. Luckily the imperial strategist knew the secret weakness of the ambull: Eventually it would sate itself on human flesh. He continued to send human wave attacks against the beasts until they all finally fell asleep....

  8. Wow, that's some impressive output Sean and they look great from here.

The Ape family especially kicks arse.

    1. Thanks Dai, the Ambulls were pretty simple to do. The Apes have been done piecemeal over a few months, although I did do the brown uniforms all in one go.

    1. Hi Ryder, thanks. It feels good to get things finished. Funny how completing projects gets you fired up to start new ones.
