Oldhammer Weekend USA 2016 - The Road to Marienburg

Hi All,

The next battle from Saturday Oct 1st was my Orcs vs. Thomas D's beautiful Empire army. I call out a theme idea that I had about some magical halfling muffins, but don't really explain it well.

These were 1500 point armies. I modified my list slightly to include some different models and try something a little different this time around. Some call that meta gaming. ;)

The comic is once again made using Comic Life 3, the Fantasy template. The colors are a little garish, feel free to critique the choices. I'm trying to tie all the comics together with the "Oldhammer Comics" brand and I'm using a couple of the Graphic Novel page layouts to get that House of Hengist style.

As always, right click on an image to open it in a new tab/window to see it in full bigness.

The pictures I took for this battle are not the greatest, but I can't go back and retake them. I also was trying to not slow down the game even more than my fumbling through the rules made it. 3rd edition is fun, but it can take a long time and be quite draining.

I may start showing some painting next, mostly paint repairs. Next Battle Report will be Escape from Nu Ork, but I need to do some yard work and get the Halloween decorations up.

Thanks for looking.

  1. Fantastic comic! You have some beautifully painted miniatures.

I'm looking forward to visiting Nu Ork soon...

    1. Thank you on both accounts Matthew. Thomas has the far superior painted figures. I think the pictures for the Nu Ork game are better. I also got permission to use one of the other players pictures.

    1. Thanks Foss. I try to get up in there with the shots, I fear I may not have gotten close enough. I'm enjoying your inktober stuff and trying to keep my eye on the knights game. One of these days I'll figure out where all the West Coast cons are and try to run an Oldhammer game. I just need to finish some more figures and get my rules chops up to snuff.

  3. Sean, when I shoot my minis, I set my digital camera to 72 DPI and as large an image as it will take (42 x 36) This means I don't have to be up in the grill of my pike block to take a pic, I can just crop the image for the zoom in.
The next NorCal convention is Dundracon in San Remon, second weekend in February. I'll be running my new Breaking Lances, and probably a Wars of Imaginations game.
    Cheers

    1. Thanks Foss, I shoot them uber big with my Nikon D5100. I could absolutely zoom and crop substantially more than I did. I have a weird work flow and sometimes I get lazy at key points. Mainly the issue for me is not being able to think on my feet at the time. When I'm at home I have all the time in the world to set up the shot. I can zoom in in CL3 it's just a tad clunky. February may be hard to do, I'm seriously considering Memorial day though, as my kids are usually out of school by then.

  4. I remember 3rd being a long game. I also remember that my old skeleton army was utter pants versus my mate's dwarves who were not in the least afraid of my shambling dead. 26 years on and I still consider them beardy gits.

Comic looks fine mate - a different and fun format to read through for sure!

    1. Hi Dai, usually if I win it's utter luck at the end. So far since bringing them out for Oldhammer I'm 2-3. I'll keep doing the comics, I just didn't like the pictures I had to work with for this one.

  5. Thanks for both the game and report! Enjoyed both.

For what it's worth, I think the O&G are an good all-around army in 3rd.

    1. Hi Zer23, you're welcome. I enjoyed our game, my luck was the exact opposite of what it usually is, so my forces lasted longer. I've never played anything but Orcs so I sometimes wonder what I'm missing.
