Pre-Holiday update

Up before 4AM as the weight of how much stuff I still have to do, hobby and otherwise, is keeping me from sleeping.

I have been remiss in welcoming Twin Cities Gamer aka Monty L from Google+ as a follower of the blog. His blog of the same name has some great looking Dark Age stuff on there right now as well as an interesting article about inventory management. I took it to heart.

I also wanted to promote a give away that Captain Arjun is having at Cor Blog Me here. He is giving away two bundles of rules, one Medieval and one Indian Mutiny. You have until the end of the month. His blog has a lot of good stuff on it, lately a solo dungeon crawl with some Dwarves battling Goblins through the mines.

As for me I'm still planning and cleaning house. Funny how you don't notice all the peeling plaster etc until you have company coming.

Finally I'll leave you with a teaser of an old Citadel figure that I intend to try my hand at stripping and re-painting for the painting challenge.

He was initially painted by my brother, and to be fair I don't think he ever read up on any painting techniques. I think he said he was trying to go for the armor being soaked in blood. I'm trying to decide if I  want to use the shield or not. It seems a little campy to me.

I'll be soaking this dude in simple green and see how it goes. I've never attempted to strip paint off a figure before.

Happy Thanksgiving to all and catch you on the flip side.

  1. MWAHA poor Sean, you don't know what kind of evil you're about to unleash ! Stripping a chaos warrior is the very first step to a dangerous patrh that will lead you to mental insanity and horrible ebay frenzies...

Never used siple green before but if you need advice on strippin' (models I mean) the oldhammerers are never far away !

Good luck with that and very good choice of model.

    1. Hi Asslessman, thanks. The model chose itself as it were. My brother gave it back to me quite a few years ago and I had always meant to re-paint it. I've heard that people use SImple Green to strip figures, I'm just trying to stay away from really smelly and toxic things like Acetone, Brake fluid and Dettol. I also am not 100% sure what Dettol would be called here in the States.

    2. Acetone is very smelly but not that toxic it's like alcohol, the vapors make you feel funny if you inhale too much of it but that's pretty much it.
Dettol is called Dettol in the US as well, it's called this way in canada as far as I know and it doesn't smell very bad. ONly thing is that if you're looking for the dettol which removes paint, you have to use the brown one with chloroxyleneol in it, not the other ones with flowery smells which will do nothing more than remove germs and give a nice smell to your minis. As far as I know it's not really toxic either unless you drink it or something silly like this, bear in mind it's meant to be a disinfectant first.
For big batches I would only use Acetone but if you're heading for one model only, Dettol or Simple green may be better since you can use them for their original purpose afterwards...

    3. Thanks Asslessman. Some of my paint job may need to smell better ;). "Toxic" was probably a poor choice of words. I mainly meant that I don't have to be overly concerned with fumes or skin contact with the simple green. I still wouldn't want it in my eyes or to ingest it, but as such it seems relatively harmless.

  3. It's seems that you will have a lot of work to do !
You're not alone, Sean !! not enough time is a good sign : it means that you have projects, dreams, etc... so it means that you are alive.
I follow the cleaning of the figure: I have 3 or 4 painted Mithril figures which are waiting for a bath (bad painted= very low price for a very rare and nice figure!)

    1. Hi Sam, thanks. Yes, having too much to do is better than the alternative. I'm trying not to look at ebay too much because I have so much unpainted already.

  4. For stripping paint, I have found the brush you use to be just as important as the product. Do yourself a huge favor and get a dentures (fake tooth, not sure what's the right english word ). The thicker bristles work wonders at getting the paint off those little nooks and cranys.

    1. H Raspoutine, that's a good tip. I will invest in a stiff (hard) bristle toothbrush.

  5. You know, I cannot figure out what is that miniature? I know that "Chaos warrior" was mentioned, but I just don't see it.

    1. Hi Hugh, I think this figure is not iconic "Chaos" it is a little odd ball.
