Kublacon 2018 - Mordheim

Hi All,

This one is the game of Mordheim we played, a massive 4 on 4 battle with all the war bands supplied.

I decided to stick with the saturated look for these pictures as well. I'm not sure if it makes them too warm for the grim dark aesthetic of Mordheim. C & C appreciated on that aspect.

Enjoy!

Mordheim is a fun but tough game. I hope my son took the lesson that you can enjoy a game for its memorable moments, not whether you just won or not.

I'd also like to welcome Spevna to the blog. His blog Spevna Studio has some of his great artwork and thoughts on the hobby. I also need to remember to add him to the Combat Burger list.

Thanks for looking.

  1. Looks marvellous. Yeah its tricky to get that across to them sometimes that winning isn't always everything.

    1. It was Simon. While winning can be more fun, I tend to find joy in epic moments in the story. Of course I lose a lot, so I need to find some reason other than winning.

  2. Fighting a vampire is never going to go well... hopefully your son learned that valuable lesson! (and maybe also the one that you are not always going to win)

    1. Hi Lasgunpacker, it seems that every time I think I can take him. I think he was most upset that he got in a real dice rolling slump. Normally his dice are hot. When I started wargaming and roleplaying I lost most of the time. My characters rarely made it out of 1st level and making 3rd level was a big deal. That is something that seems to be lost on successive generations.

  3. I was the undead player in this game and had a blast! Agree Tyler's board is amazing. Between the undead and witchhunters it was tit for tat in the beginning with a dire wolf going down early followed by the monkey (dreg) taking out a warhound in revenge. But the midgame saw the witchhunters gunning down the zombies and dregs left and right, pistols blazing. Thing was, the vampire cared not a bit (and the necromancer kept at the fringe behind cover)! As far as the vampire was concerned, the others dropping was what they were there to do. Had the sisters not crumpled in the center, letting the possessed and company charge from the flank, it could have gone the other way. Great game guys, well played!

Also, the ogre v ogre in the sewer was a titanic, drawn out struggle and a great spectacle.

    1. Yes Ryder, I remembered you played the Undead band. I just misremembered that they were your figures. Tyler told me he was using some one elses band for them. Correct, the possessed coming in from the left sealed the Witch Hunters fate. Even though they were right next to us, I didn't quite track what was going on in the sewer. I just got the two pictures. Thanks for the great game.
