No Captcha November

I know I'm a few days late, but bear with me.

I got this image from here.
You've all heard it before, but I thought I'd try and get you started on ditching captcha for the month of November. I think the real question you need to ask yourself is, do I really get so much spam that I need to use this captcha thing?

I don't get any spam (knocks wood) and turned off captcha back in February of last year. You can read about it here if you like. I have not received one lick of spam or comment that needed moderating in that time. Now this could be a reflection of the lack of popularity of my blog, but I don't think so.

So I'd just like to encourage those of you who still use captcha to try going without it for the rest of this month and see what happens. And for those of you who use captcha and moderation, for the love of God, stop the madness. I'm a control freak, but that is too much.

And now an experiment:

I want to see which picture will come up in the feed reader.

From Facebook but go check out ashley-salazar.com

Another one from facebook
Enjoy!

    1. Hi Fran, I did a page break at the bottom and then had the lovely Ashley, followed by a silly thing about Captain Kirk. Testing what shows up in Feedly.

  2. the first picture in your post always shows up first, in G+ you can change which picture shows when you share it.
    Peace James
Good idea with the no Captcha November

    1. Hi James, Thanks. Apparently the last picture shows up in feedly, so my strategy of hiding saucy pictures wasn't working so well.

  5. Got to agree, unless you suffer from a lot of spam captcha is just not worth it and annoying to boot

    1. Glad you agree Scotty. I'm puzzled why so many are still using it.

  7. No captcha since I've begun my blog!
no spam neither bots comments since a long time (maybe Blogger makes a good job for that ?).
Captcha + moderation is a shame!
(moderation only is not very cool too.....)

(one thing useful : you don't have to tip the numbers of the captchas : just the letters! and it works all the time !)

    1. Hi Sam, good job. I had captcha at first but have never had a problem since I ditched it. I recently started leaving out the picture part when somebody pointed that out. It's still a pain though.

  9. I can only agree with you: Captchas are pretty useless for spam protecting. Either they are too difficult to read and have a high fail rate (but can't be solved by bots) or they are so easy to read that even bots can solve them (yes good bots can read the Captchas even if they are graphics).
For me they are a pain in the *** because I often browse with my tablet and filling out those annoying thingies often keeps me from commenting at all (ever tried to fill out the difficult ones with a virtual keyboard?).

So thanks for spreading the word :)

    1. Hi Paradox0n, me too. I do a lot of reading and replying on my phone. It is quite difficult to type the text with a virtual keyboard.

  11. catcha free blog owner mysellf, I'd rather deal with the couple of spam messages here and there (3 in a year) than with eye-killing nonsense.
I really love the kirk-fu, never quite understood how a double fist hit in the back could help in a fight but funny.

    1. Hi Asslessman, wow 3 whole spam messages? I'm surprised you don't have biometric verification on you blog. ;)

The Kirk Fu picture just had to be put on the blog. I don't know about the whole two hand thing, but I can attest to a blow to the small of the back being surprisingly painful.

  12. Been captcha-free from the beginning, and just a few spams, most of them caught by the system. I believe I only had to remove one or maybe two stupid ones.
    So, down with captcha. Freedom!
