Painting supplies and a Welcome

Well... my back is pretty jacked up. I finally went in to the chiropractor and he said I had strained the Psoas, Quadratus Lumborum and Gluteus Medius as well as caused some disc irritation. You haven't lived until you've had someone dig their fingers into your abdomen while you try to raise your leg behind you. Good times.

In the interim I've ordered and put together a nail polish rack to hold my paints. I believe I first heard about this from Big Lee, it's only taken a year or so to implement. Interestingly enough the craft paint bottles appear to be similar in size to nail polish bottles, so I can fit 60 of them in the rack. I got mine on Amazon here.

I should have bought two.

I also decided to buy some of the Nail Polish agitator beads after watching Les Bursley's video on stirring paint. I got them here, 100 ball bearings don't seem like a whole lot when you get them in.

I haven't tried it yet, but I have had paint gush out of the dropper bottles on me so I wanted to try this. I also haven't put the dropper bottle in my drill chuck yet.

I'm also excited to try my Rosemary & Co. Series 33 brushes, once I can sit in a chair with out passing out from pain.

Good service and I had no problem with customs.  These are short handle, pointed.

Before I go I'd like to welcome Faux Gamer of Nerdus Interruptus. Some interesting thoughts on movies etc.

Instead of bombarding you with a stream of consciousness, I'm going to try and keep things around a single theme. Perhaps reigning it in in this way will help me to regulate posting more effectively.

  2. Bad backs?? You gotta love 'em! I've never heard of the Gluteus Medius, but I bet I've pulled mine on many occasions!!

    1. Hi Ray, my back has gotten bad precipitously. The medius is just one of the muscles in your butt. Doing a lot of deep squats seems to make it angry.

  3. Looks like you've managed to mind some distractions whilst laid up. I use Rosemary & Co. and can't rate them highly enough for service.

    1. Hi Michael, plenty needs doing I just have to be careful what I attempt. I agree that Rosemary & Co. is quite good all around. The only thing I'd caution other US buyers about is that the brushes won't be here that fast. Plan ahead and no worries.

  4. I love my Rosemary & Co brushes, they have changed my life. Hope the back recovers soon, nothing worse than having a part of your body turn on you.

    1. That's good to hear Paul. I'm really hoping that the brushes will allow me to do the techniques I want. Right now I'm struggling with terrible cheap brushes that can't hold a point etc. As far as the back goes it's been very frustrating. I've been in a loop of injury going on two years now. Not just the back, but mostly muscular injury.

    1. Hi Snickit, thanks for commenting. I've only heard good things about them and the service was pretty good. It is also still difficult to get Kolinsky Sable in the US, so it was my only choice when I ordered. I think Dick Blick will be restocking Kolinsky in usable sizes in August.

  6. Don´t put lead bearings in acrylic paint bottles! I did that, and many of my paints became an useless crap. The lead reacts badly with acrylic paint and became hard.

    1. Hi Emilio, thanks for commenting. That is a good thing to know before one goes and puts the lead fishing weights in all their paints. I ended up ordering the 3/16"(~5mm) Stainless Steel balls for mixing nail polish. I'll let you know how that goes.
