Another batch of 90's figures finished

I got the other 14 figures of that unit I started for the new year.

Although it looked bleak, I made the deadline and submitted them to Curt where you can read about them here.

It was a little touch and go as I managed to hurt my thumb Thursday night, but I was able to do the finishing touches without too much pain since I now had a bunch of free time after skipping my workout.

First time using tufts, they are GW Middenland. On a side note, I took my son into the local GW store. His reaction? Whoa, cool! He already has his eye on a box of Chaos Terminators to battle the Blood Angels inside a Space Hulk.

Sorry, back on track. Black and Red was the main theme. I started doing more grey because I got bored. A few splashes of color and lots of Bronze. I don't like to have too much silver metallic and the bronze and copper always feels more scavenged to me. The shields were a bit of a cluster, I painted them separate and then realized too late the fit was off. I also broke the middle one in half, it doesn't seem to be noticeable in the photo. 20 year old plastic shields can be quite brittle.

Here's the whole unit all together.

Perhaps some Zombies up next. Cheers.

  1. Slow down, you're going to hurt yourself! Seriously, though, these look great.

    1. Hi TB, at the blistering pace of almost one figure a day!? Thanks for the compliment.

  2. Be careful. I took my 5 year old into my LFGS and he ended spending more on miniatures then I did. Now guess who has to stick them together so a 5 year old can play with them (impossible I hear you say!) and paint them to the specifications of a 5 year old..... "you mean you want EVERY SINGLE quilt of the mesh jacket a different colour?". . . . ."Yes Daddy!"

    Dangerous times ahead ;0)

    1. Hi Riotville, sounds great actually. My boy just turned 9 and I'm trying to get him into painting, child labor laws be damned! I think I may have micro managed him too much in his first attempts. My more hands off approach has seen him paint nothing :(. But if he's excited about something I'll help him do it. The main problem for him right now is connecting the idea of limited resources to gaming. We really can't buy everything we want.

    2. can i suggest poster paints?

They come out of clothes (and carpets) fairly easily

Cheap as chips, give sufficent cover over a white undercoat, you can wash the lot off if he does not like it (great for recycling miniatures!). If he does like the finish the results can be varnished just like a regular paint job.

Also the old MB, GW game miniatures are solid to play with and fairly cheap and easy to paint.

It was little fellas way in.

  3. Great looking "vintage" figures. They look better than most stuff out now. My sons never got into miniature game - save a short stint in WW2 Disposable Heroes; now they're on the computer all day online gaming.

    1. Hi Dean, I'm worried that my window for having a gaming buddy is rapidly closing. It doesn't help much that I'm constantly trying to learn rules. I don't mind some of the new stuff, but I really like the variety of the older stuff.

  4. Tremendous group Sean, scary to think that the sculpts are over twenty years old!

    1. Thank you Michael. It is rather sobering to think on how long ago I bought, or even primed these gents. What makes me feel worse though is hearing people talk about how they weren't even born yet when XYZ figure was produced.
