Blog Interlude - Some products you may be interested in.

Hi All,

As I work on various household projects and get the next battle report ready, I thought I'd share with you some projects that have caught my fancy. I am not able, at this point in time, to support all of them monetarily so I hope to live vicariously through you.

The Forge of Ice "Sleepy Sentries & Sleazy Merchants" looks nice and really fits a niche for those pulpy Conan style games. They look like Stygians to me.

Next is Astropolis by Lead Adventure. With only 3 days left I may be able to resist and stick to my guns on holding off on purchasing these. My hope is that when I finally paint some of my stash and don't feel so guilty I will be able to purchase some of these in their store.

Their kickstarter may be over but Shortwars got my attention. I may be adding more to my Halfling army in the future. I've had a chat with John Lye on facebook and I like the stuff he is doing. You may have seen some of his Hybrids, lovely stuff.

Speaking of Hybrids, watch out for French company Uscarl, you may have seen some beautifully painted examples of their upcoming release on JB's blog here.

Finally, I've been peripherally aware of them for years, but check out Skull and Crown. Thomas Foss makes some beautiful Wooden flats and puts on some grand games. I wish I had taken my son out earlier to play these when he was younger. Our goal is to make 2017 the year that we game together at a convention. I think one of Thomas games would be a great entree for him.

Krakatoans arrive, Return to Colony 87 is live, and the Boar boyz are under way!

Lots of news to share. I'll have to do pictures at a later date because I'm not set up to take good ones right now and I'm dying to share this with you.

So the Dragon Bait Krakatoans arrived and they look great. The crab is a monster and the other Dragon Bait minis from their already released catalog are very nice. They're very whimsical sculpts. Take a look at their shop here.

Colony 87 has returned with a new Kickstarter here. I'll also have a widget on the side.


You can get all the new ones plus the old ones this time around, no one need to feel left out. You can see beautifully painted versions of these on JB's blog, Leadplague, and you can see my take on one of the first wave figures in my "Merchant of Venus" post.

Lastly, I've finally started painting those Boar Boyz (sorry Don).

The days seem to go by quickly, I'm putting more effort into utilizing my time more effectively and not put off various real life things I would rather ignore. Fingers crossed.

RIP Wayne England, and some other news.

Hi All,

Sad tidings from yesterday. If you haven't already heard, Wayne England has passed away. Here is the Google search and I recommend the image search to get some idea of the scope and breadth of his work.

The boy chose to wear his Dwarf Oldhammer shirt to school today.

I changed my facebook profile to this rather poor picture of the Goblin Oldhammer shirt.

I did not know Mr. England personally but I enjoyed his work and appreciated his support for the Oldhammer community. He will be missed.

On to other news.

The Circle of Chaos Kickstarter has just six days left and has added the Rhinotaur. I splurged because I can't help myself.

The Effin Cool Minis Halfling Kickstarter also has six days left and they have put out some stretch goals for more Drew Williams sculpted ponies that are within spitting distance. So check it out. I haven't decided if I'm going to up my pledge, order a la carte units or just sit with my initial pledge.

My latest painted figure is up on the Painting challenge blog here. I'll post up the pictures here and on the Oldhammer facebook page tomorrow after 9AM my time. I tried not to be provocative on the challenge site. I may be more so here.

In running news, the boy and I ran our first race together. I was a very proud dad as we finished the 5K with a time of 22:24 and 7:13/mile pace. I thought he did great for his first time running that distance and I enjoyed trying to give him some racing strategy while we were out on the course. I even came in 4th in my age group. I probably could have run faster, but I would also probably still be regretting it if I had.

I've also decided that I'm going to try and focus on the positives this year, rather than nit pick all the negatives, like I usually do. We'll see where that takes us.

Oh, and I had a dream about playing Oldhammer over a video conference so I'm going to work more on making that a reality.

Vermember entry, Diehard Kickstarter and Dragon Bait Indiegogo

A lot of stuff going on, I'll try to keep it to three topics only.

Vermember:

Over on The Bazaar of Crooked Wonders we had a Skaven painting challenge. I painted three.

I had originally thought I would do the Rat Ogre on the left then morphed it into the handler and other Rat Ogre as well.

As the month wore on, and little progress was being made, I thought about not finishing the second two. But it always seemed like there was time to add a color or layer while things were drying on the first one.

I found out this morning that I could only pick one as my entry, so I picked "Old Sword Hand". I felt like his colors just came out better overall. The first Rat Ogre seemed to have all the browns, tans and ochres just kind of run together. Even his eye doesn't look as red in the picture as it does in real life. Maybe I chose the wrong White balance. It also appears that the OSL and verdigris on the brassy bits was nearly obliterated by the final grunge wash. Again it's slightly more obvious on the actual model, but maybe I need to be a little more bold with OSL.

Just under two days left. The Chaos sorcerer and Hill Giant (?) have been released. At the start of the campaign I was really hoping for Son of Slomm, but it looks like he may have to wait for Diehard II the Wrath of Slomm.

Some more cool figures. "I know Sean, blah, blah, blah buy more miniatures." But they are pretty cool and they've added a sculpt of a Witch for the Krakatoans which can be seen on Blue's blog here.

Off to do chores, paint that blasted banner, prep miniatures, and try to figure what else I need to order to get ready for the challenge.

Colony 87, Cardboard Warriors, and Ray's giveaway

I should have been posting regularly the last few days, but you know how it goes. I just wanted to clue you in on a few things that are time sensitive.

Colony 87 Kickstarter

These awesome looking Sci-Fi civilians are wrapping up today. I don't have any other Sci-Fi 28mm at the moment, unless the Space Hulk plastics count, but I plan to get a few soon for Necromunda type games.

I got an email from Billiam Babble of Inked adventures the other day telling me of this great product which you can find here. A great deal on paper terrain and figures and a good cause. I'm not sure how long this one will run.

Ray's 500th blog post giveaway

You know him, you love him, Ray is having a fantastic looking giveaway that ends on the 15th. So get you submissions in here. Or don't, and let me have a better chance at winning something. Hopefully I can win something from him again, I did once before.

So a lot of stuff to look at. I have to run off to Home Depot and buy a replacement Kitchen faucet. The column on mine seized and I apparently broke it trying to lubricate the column so that I could actually turn the damn thing. I also base coated those Altengard figures. I couldn't spray because it was too windy so I had to do it all by hand. We're also still only part way through Knight's Quest. I think I lost the boy. More on that later.

Conan Kickstarter

So I saw this Kickstarter mentioned on Plastic Legions the other day and I could not resist signing up for it. It has already smashed through two or three Stretch goals since Tuesday and it seems like it is worth it for the figures alone. Fingers crossed.

I also got an email from the Dungeon Saga Kickstarter by Mantic. They have set up a pledge manager and will be inviting me to get onto it sometime this week. I am a relative newbie to Kickstarter, Conan will only be my 4th, and the first time I have been involved in a project complex enough to need a pledge manager. I suppose it's nice to be able to add stuff on if you passed on it the first go round, but it seems a little overly complex. We shall see.

I realized on Tuesday as well that I could catch up to my target by painting 171 points worth of stuff. Of course since then I've been distracted, so we shall see how that goes. I really need to focus today to have a chance of getting something submitted.

We'll see if a kid sick at home and volunteering will allow me the time I need.
