It's the most wonderful time of the year!

The kids are starting back to school today, and I have to say I'm ecstatic. I'm all out of ideas for "fun" activities and just want to be able to do my thing without the peanut gallery.

I also received my 1/72 plastics that I ordered from Megahobby. I try to spread it around and find the best deals that I can.

The Greek Catapults are for use as Tropilium Ballistae, and the Egyptian Chariots for their Stygustani counterparts. The chariots both had the Hittite King Bonus figure, woo hoo!

The Algerian pirates just looked fun and the Carribean ones are for use in THW's And a Bottle of Rum (AaBoR). They look just about as bad as the review picture on PSR. A few even have miscast holes in them. But I think I can get some service out of them. More stuff coming from Hobby Bunker as well.

Welcome to Kasper, somehow I totally missed him following between Kev and Justin. How could I with such a distinctive avatar? Kasper is the author of no less than six blogs?! I follow Warmaster and must admit to finding it on a search for chainmail bikini. But I stayed for the battle reports and painting and modelling. Scroll down to the bottom of his blog, if you dare, and see what his two most popular posts are.

I'm going to schedule this for 7AM Thursday my time, to try and get ahead on some posting. The upcoming post feature has fallen by the wayside, but I have some bloggery and some oldhammer on my mind at the moment.

    1. Thanks Norman. Two actually. I guess I can have a Hittite civil war.

  2. Hi Sean,
The two kings must then be named Mursili III and Hattusili III. And thanks for the introduction - I've always wondered just who were behind all those hits for girls in chainmail bikinis, and now I know.... :-).
    All the best,
    Kasper

  3. Nice haul of stuff there!

Your thoughts on Bottle Of Rum. Looks entertaining on THW's blog, but haven't seen any reviews yet.

    1. Hi Vlad, I don't have a review per se because I'm still reading the rules. I should probably use paper figures or something to get started. What I like abut it so far is the promise of being able to work out some sea battles along with the Pirate skirmishes.

  4. Great purchase Sean! Not the Assyrian King bonus figure?

    1. Hi Peter, I wasn't expecting any bonus figures and then I was a little disappointed when I didn't get one of each. No Assyrian king for me.

    1. Hi Fran, yes they won't be all over the place exuding adolescent smugness.

  6. The worst part about kids going back to school is that the buses foul traffic for the first two months of school.

    1. Hi Chris, we live close to our school so we walk or bike there. The school has expanded by about 300 students since it's inagural year last year and the parking lot and traffic around the campus was frightful. Fortunately the crossing guard on our side of the street is a tough old codger who rules his cross walk with authority. He yells at teens and parents alike to "slow the @#$% down!"

  7. As a parent, I'll be delighted when my kids go back to school next week :-) . As a commuter, it'll add a lot of traffic to the roads; that's not so good :-( .

I know that 1/72nd plastics are cheap and numerous, but I just cannot paint them the way I'd like. My loss, I think...

Were the bonus Hittites on foot and cringing in terror before Pharaoh's warriors :-) ?

    1. Hi Hugh. Yes the traffic is already insane. On my run this morning the traffic to get into the High School parking lot was backed up about 2 blocks.

As for 1/72, they're not 28mm so one needs to take a slightly different approach I think. I'll let you know when I figure it out.

The two were supposedly the Hittite king, looking kingly.

    1. Hi Ray. It's a pretty old ad, but memorable. We are strange here and end school in late May and start up again in early August.

  9. What a variety of troops - Algerian Pirates, wow - those have some possibilities. Hmmm, my 15 year old still has about a month left of summer vacation here in WA State. Dean

    1. Hi Dean, thanks. Yeah Back to school in September is how my wife and I remember it growing up. Arizona is different for some reason.

  10. A lot of boxes!
Mars figures are awful ! Some manufacturers do better pirates:
some in metal, but also in plastic: the Orion set is very good !

    1. Hi Sam, just more to add to the pile. I do have the Orion Pirates coming from another supplier.
