Some updates

Well, I've been noodling around with the blog. I'm trying to sort through my blog list and cull out defunct sites as well as figure out whether some are not displaying because of a glitch or lack of posting. I also need to do this as I seem to have no way to bulk load them into my feed reader. I use Feedly from my phone in an effort to keep up with what you all are doing. If you haven't noticed I've fallen behind some. There are a few posts I hope to get back to, but because of their length and number of responses, I haven't felt up to chiming in.

If you don't do it, I strongly suggest you follow James's advice here and add the Google Followers widget to your blog. It would also be nice if you gave an indication of where in the world you are. The NSA already knows, but I may not. My current idea is to break my bloglist into geographic regional chunks. Not quite sure how I'll do it yet. I'm only somewhere around 260 blogs.

And a word of advice if you follow in my footsteps on this exercise in madness, don't try and copy your list from the layout page. Do it from your profile. It's just much easier.

And now a word about Google+. If I've ignored you on it I apologize. I'm still trying to figure out why it is not totally redundant and how to best utilize it. I see more people including it on their pages and am not opposed to it, I just haven't really figured out how to use it effectively.

Perhaps a post about what widgets to use and some more about blogging best practices are in order.

Now onto some points of interest.

First check out Anna B. Meyer's progress on her Greyhawk map here. Hands down this is how you make a map.

I've been watching my DVRed episodes of The Walking Dead that aired over the 4th of July to get me pumped and remember the story. You can see the countdown here. As a coincidence I was surfing channels and came across the movie Love Actually. I had totally forgotten that Andrew Lincoln was in it.

Right now I'm at the part where they've just entered the prison and been clearing it out. I like what a ruthless bad ass he becomes.

Also it's time to welcome two new followers:

cedric mauvielle who I am assuming is the same cedric from Lost Wargamer in HK. A very nice blog that I've already encouraged you to follow. One tip is that if you don't have an Avatar you get buried at the beginning of the list so you may be overlooked as a follower. Also your blog is not linked in your profile. Just minor points.

Tom Young runs Tides of War and has a pretty sweet Dol Amroth army front and center on the blog right now. He's also done some more integrating with Google+ so I'll be digging around to see how he does it.

Have a great weekend.

  1. Every three months I clean out my blogroll and the blogs I follow to eliminate people who've quit entirely. I keep anyone who is active even if they don't comment as a courtesy to gamers.

I won't do Google Circle thingy as I've always been suspicious of Lord Google. Don't even get me started on the NSA because I'd say things I really mean and that's not good these days:)

    1. Hi Anne, that sounds like a good practice. I think I was keeping some as wishful thinking. Every now and then one comes across a blog that seems really good that someone has let wither and die for reasons of their own.

It's okay Anne. I generally try to stay away from topics that inflame our negative passions. I totally get how you feel about google, but they've already got my number, in for a penny and all that.

  2. thanks Sean. Same Cedric following and blogging from Hong Kong. I am certainly not doing great in attracting crowds. Blogging was mainly a personal motivation tool and a way to track my own progress.
Kepp it up. Sometimes you need to clean your desk/house/virtual stuff to reset and come back with fresh ideas and things.
Little to say I have been reading your blogs but never thought on officially following them. Sure the NSA knew and profiled me, but seems the most concerned people (the bloggers) not. funny world we live in :)

    1. Hi Cedric, no need to officially follow it just makes it easier to keep track. I too mainly started for myself, but I did eventually find a sense of community and a cadre of loyal readers as it were. So I tend to try and cater to tastes a little now, although it may not be readily apparent. I suppose my own government spying on me should bother me more, but I guess I assumed they were already doing it.

  3. I have started to think about doing a walking dead type game. The more I see it, the bigger the temptation. You are ahead of me in the series. I am still in the second season.

    1. Hi Chris, zombie games are part of what brought me back to the hobby. I love the walking Dead and hope I didn't spoil anything for you. I don't think what I said was too much of a spoiler. In re-watching season two I realized how the characters really annoyed me during that season. I guess it was all their angst at a crumbling society.

  4. All looking fresh and tidy Seam, I like it. Like you I am wary of the Google+ thingy, not sure I really need it.

    1. Hi Michael, all my work right now is more behind the scenes. Some one made mention of linking G+ comment screwing up the comment section, I don't know. I +1 things on occasion and may add the google circle thing. I'll of course let you all know what is going on with that.

  5. I keep going back and forth about buying zombies...but then I would have to buy tons of modern buildings...etc....so I think...I am going to just buy a whole bunch of Warhammer zombies and have a MEDIEVAL Zombie apocalypse...maybe in ancient Bretonnia history or something...that would be cheaper.

And I am a big fan of the Walking Dead!!!

    Cheers,
    Tom

    1. Have you read the Sigmar books? The whole battle with Nagash after the founding of the Empire is a good campaign. I'm foggy on the particulars at the moment.

  7. If you are a fan of Mr Lincoln, check out a Brit TV show called 'afterlife'. Co-stars the fair haired lass from 'Scott and Bailey'

  8. My 15 year old and I watched the last few seasons of Walking Dead together - guess at his age I take what I can get for quality family time. As far as blogs go - I have mine set up to show the 10 current posts. That said, I've had trouble with updating the blog content in the past - recently seems to be working okay again. Best, Dean

    1. Yeah I hear you Dean. I like the show but quality time with the kids is a funny thing. I try to be supportive and interactive, but sometimes after awhile I just want them to leave me alone.
