Some layout changes

So I decided, in an attempt to make the blog a little bit more user friendly that I would change the format.

Of course in the process it wiped out my background etc. So... I'll be puttering around here in the coming days fixing things back up.

Hopefully this format (Sidebar) will be the best of both worlds. People will be able to comment easily and still be able to see a list of other posts that they may be interested in.

As always you can select the view that you like the best in the upper left of the menu bar.

Also make sure to get in on the ATZ-FFO crowdfunding. Three days left to go and only $242 left to reach the stretch goal of 6 extra 15mm figures. While I did pledge I am not eligible for the stretch goals, I'd just hate to see people miss out when it's so close.

Also thanks to Armand who posts on TMP for linking to my previous post. I should probably post links on TMP more as it really increases traffic. I got 1224 hits in one day, which I think is the most ever. The only down side is I may be getting a rep as that guy who is obsessed with boobs in gaming.

Big stuff in the works in the next few weeks. Keep your eyes peeled.

  1. New format doesnt look too bad Sean.

I myself have been thinking of fooling around with the layout of my Starbase Alpha Romeo Charlie blog and seeing whats available other then the standard template I have it at now.

I think Fran over at The Angry Lurker might have you beat in the Boob department, he has more pics of scantly cald femme's and of Ray up then you. LOL

    1. I do like a boob or two, I like what you've done to the place!

    2. Thanks Doug. I like the dynamic views because they supposedly give more accurate stats on page views and better access to old posts. It is annoying, however, that each change wipes out any customization and that there have been major issues in blog design not working. But other than that it's great.

  2. Hey Sean,
some input from a (mostly) tablet user: The new layout seems to work a bit better on my tablet than the old one. But with both I have really trouble commenting or even reading your stuff. The page loads and loads and loads end often breaks in the midst of rendering because of timeouts of essential components. Most of the time I have to refresh the whole page and hope for the best.
Maybe its because all of the stuff is loaded via JavaScript? By deactivating JS I can't see a thing here :(

    1. Thanks Paradox0n. What operating system does your tablet use? I wonder why the page takes so long to load? Right now it is very image lite and should be less of a problem. I gave up using my kindle for reading blogs through the web browser. At the time it appeared that Android devices did not work well with blogger. Now I use feedly to read blog posts and then go back to my laptop when I want to comment.

    2. Its an android. And I don't have any problems at other blogs. As said its not the images its the complete Javascript theme. It loads one script after the other and is really slow while its doing this (which causes timeouts and messes the whole thing). Had to load it 3 times now for commenting and this sucks. That would also be 3 hits on the page who were really just one. As sad as it is I think I must stop commenting here because it gives me gray hair :-)

    3. On my kindle I have the same problem as you. It seems not to be an issue on my android phone. I can see a link to view comments. Sent from my android phone.

    4. I even have the problems sometimes on my browser(s) (as I had it now). Perhaps the scripts are not shared worldwide on a CDN and I have to get the scripts over many nodes 'till they arrive in Germany :)

A professional sidenode: Complete JavaScript pages are most of the time pretty annoying AND for SEO they can be nearly invisible because many bots just ignore JS. Test it with deactivating JS and have a look at the theme. Its completely blank.

But hey this is YOUR blog and YOU must be happy with it :) So don't listen too much to a grumbling webdeveloper who has to deal with stuff like this all day long :) And I mean that with no irony or sarcasm.

    5. Hi Paradox0n. Hmm, I didn't realize that javascript caused so many complications. In the past I have used it minimally with embedded scripts or ones that called for the script from my sites files. I see from the source that all of the js comes from bloblog.com

I'll have to think hard on it as I don't really want to exclude anyone. I also understand your annoyance. While not a professional, I have done some coding and it can be quite frustrating.

    6. Don't worry. I'll definitly read your stuff and be it in feedly :-)

  3. I can't really comment on the new layout, I am one of those that need time to get used to changes, heh. First impression, it is better to have all the posts available on sidebars, as I like to sniff around the old stuff - so it is more transparent.

The problem with commenting still continues, as paradoxon said. I think the problem is in this fancy theme, not in the general layout. Only had to refresh once this time, but I think you'll grow a reputation for can't-comment-guy faster than a boob guy...every normal guy is a boob guy :P

    1. Thanks Michael. It's still a work in progress. One nice thing I just discovered is that the customization is actually working through blogger now. Perhaps the old translate widget is what was causing it not to work.

  5. Thanks Mathyoo. That is really annoying that it is still hard to comment. I'm going to stick with this format for a little while. I just noticed when I refreshed this page that the pullout menu to the right showed only the subscription tab. That happens when the page has a load error and I can't see the comment section either. It only happens once in a while for me though.
